Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the importance of Canada’s parks and national historic sites, July 20. Playing host to the event was the Information Centre lawn, which was swarming with people who bounced from one activity to the next. There was everything from canine search-and-rescue demonstrations to musical performances and rock climbing.
Parks Day started in 1990 and has since been celebrated each year in all of Canada’s parks on the third Saturday of July. This year’s celebration was especially significant because it also marked the 30th anniversary of Friends of Jasper National Park—a registered charity dedicated to promoting understanding, appreciation and respect for the natural and cultural heritage of JNP.
