There were guests in simple, dark masks; elaborate feathery masks; stark, unsettling masks and even a man in novelty glasses and a prosthetic nose.
The Rotary Club of Jasper’s Masquerade Ball saw well-dressed strangers in all types of disguises descend on the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge March 8.
The fundraiser was put on with the help of Marmot Basin, which highlighted its 50th anniversary at the event with a dance troupe performing a ski-inspired dance routine, and speakers reflecting on the history of the ski hill.
Significant money was also raised from the auction of a specially commissioned painting of Marmot Basin from realist painter Bruce K. Lawes—the winning bid hit the $24,000 mark.
All the money raised from the sale of the painting and silent auction went to the Rotary Club, which will distribute it to the local and international charity projects it supports.
Along with a four-course meal provided by Fairmont staff and served in the beautifully decorated Beauvert Room, guests had a chance to bid on silent auction items and mingle in the après ski lounge.
The night ended with a performance from the eight-piece dance band Flextime, who had the dance floor packed in just a few minutes.
