If watching a movie is an act of appreciating art, what happens when you watch a movie about appreciating art?

Travel down that wormhole if you dare, Dec. 5, at the Jasper Film Club’s third offering of the season.

Museum Hours starts at the spark of an unlikely friendship, when a Canadian tourist captures the attention of a Viennese guard at the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Drawn together by their love of art, Anne and Johann set off into the city to explore and reflect on it and their lives.

In the spirit of character-driven films like Before Sunset, Museum Hours focuses in on Johann and Anne, using Vienna as a backdrop to explore their bizarre and shifting relationship.

Written and directed by Jem Cohen, the film’s been making the festival circuit this year, appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival, the London Film Festival, and South by Southwest, among others.

Chris Garnham of the Film Club said he’s once again excited for the club’s latest flick.

The club has put together a strong lineup this year despite how tough it’s been for the society to get qualifying films, said Garnham.

It’s a club rule not to show films that are already available to rent, noted Garnham, explaining how it’s important to show fresh and exciting movies that Jasperites wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to see.

While it can make it challenging to fill up the schedule, Garnham said its worth it when the club gets to bring interesting and unique films to Jasper.
