Calling all backcountry campers.
On Jan. 25 Parks Canada will open Jasper National Park’s (JNP) backcountry campsite reservation system at 8 a.m. Reservations for front country campsites opened two weeks earlier on Jan. 10.
Jasper’s backcountry encompasses more than 1,000 kilometres of trails and more than 80 campgrounds and camping areas.  Athabasca Island, Big Bend, Saturday Night Lake and Hidden Cove on Maligne Lake, are sure to be backcountry favorites with their recent renovations.
With the online reservation system, hikers and campers will have access to better information about Jasper’s backcountry trails and campsites. There are printable PDF guides for each backcountry trail, including elevation profiles, distance charts and suggested routes with the UTM co-ordinates of campsites along the way to help backcountry users plan their adventures.
Park users will also still be able to book backcountry campsites by calling 1-877-RESERVE. While we always encourage visitors to plan their stay ahead of time, there will also be a computer station located in the lobby of Jasper National Park’s Visitor Information Centre to serve walk-in visitors who wish to book a backcountry campsite.
Visitors are reminded that a Discovery Pass provides free admission into Jasper National Park, and all other national parks and national historic sites operated by Parks Canada in 2017 to celebrate Canada 150. Â All other fees remain in place for 2017, including campsites.
