Garden tour turns 10

Eight gardens will be featured, said Judy Krefting, director of library services at the Jasper Municipal Library. “Plus, Annelies Laggner is always a bonus garden because she loves to show her garden every year and it’s spectacular.”

Participating gardeners “really enjoy showing their gardens and telling everyone about them.”

The gardens grow everything from flowers to fruits and vegetables; there’s always variety in the tour, said Krefting. The community garden, run by the Jasper Local Food Society, has also been a part of the tour since 2010.

Even if the same garden is participating in the tour again, “gardens are never the same from year to year.”

Gardens are kept a mystery until participants purchase a ticket and receive a brochure that provides names, addresses and a map. One garden will even offer refreshments.

Organizers added another creative aspect this year, said Krefting. Musicians will perform in different gardens, along with JAG artists, who will sketch and paint in certain locations.

In August, the pieces created by JAG members will be displayed in SnowDome as part of the show “Dragons and Flowers.” The exhibit’s opening night on Monday, Aug. 5 will coincide with Coin Clean Laundry’s 51st anniversary party at SnowDome.

Tickets for the garden tour are $20 and available at the library or JAG’s Clocktower Gallery at 620 Connaught Dr. Proceeds will go to Friends of the Jasper Library.
