It was the battle for first place in the West division of Alberta 6-Man football last Friday, on a breezy day in Hinton.

The Jasper Glaciers continued their impressive first quarter play with Brad Anselmo juking his way through the Hinton defense to score two early touchdowns. Martin Kreiner followed up with a quarterback bootleg and rumbled to the end zone to take the visitors to a 24–0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Hinton Wolfpak got on track in the second quarter with the wind at their back. Using their size advantage in a jumbo package, the Wolfpak plowed through the smaller Jasper defense and scored two touchdowns and a rouge on a wind-aided punt. At half time the score was 24–15.

Half time adjustments seemed to work for the Glaciers as they managed to score one touchdown while battling the wind and another early in the fourth quarter.

Brad Anselmo found open field on both occasions and the Hinton defense was unable to catch the Grade 12 tailback. Hinton’s size advantage was countered by some quick defensive play by Dylan Mooney and Martin Kreiner, as the Wolfpak’s only success in the second half of the game was on a long run by their speedy tailback late in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided.

The final score was 40–21 in favor of the Glaciers.

Emerson Ostrander and Dylan Mooney both managed to block convert attempts by the Wolfpak. Mooney connected on four two-point kicked converts and Jack Hillworth ran a sweep right for a single point convert.

German exchange student Jasper Gabel was able to pressure the Hinton quarterback, setting up a Glacier interception in the fourth quarter to snuff out Hinton’s comeback attempt.

The game also featured some big open field hits by the Glaciers’ Morgan Poirier and Martin Kreiner, as the Jasper defense put in another strong performance.

With a 3–0 record, the Glaciers head into their bye week ranked third in the province by Football Alberta.

The next home game is Friday, Oct. 11, when Holy Redeemer Rebels from Edson make their first visit to Centennial Field.
