The Jasper Glaciers got off to another strong start last Friday as they hosted the Sun Child Bisons.  Speedy rookie Brad Anselmo, playing his first game as a Glacier, ran the ball for three touchdowns and Dylan Mooney added another in the first quarter to put the Glaciers ahead 30.

The second quarter saw the onslaught continue as quarterback Jake Melanson connected with Emerson Ostrander in the end zone and Mooney used his speed to outdistance the Bison defenders for the Glaciers sixth major of the game.

The Bisons came to life just before half time, finding a hole in the Glacier defense to score a 30-yard touchdown.

The only scoring in the third quarter was a 27-yard Brad Anselmo field goal.

The fourth quarter was again dominated by the Glaciers, as Mooney scored twice, once on an impressive 52-yard run as he swept around the Bison defenders.

Martin Kreiner capped the scoring on defense, as he stripped the Bison running back of the ball at the 20-yard-line and broke two tackles to reach paydirt.

The final score was 71–6 for the Glaciers.

Aside from his four touchdowns, Mooney also made seven of nine conversion attempts.

Rookie Glacier Bennett Palzat made his first reception in the game with a 25-yard catch and run.  Morgan Poirier also made his first catch as a Glacier, earning his team a first down with some fancy footwork along the sidelines. On defense, Joe Merilovich played a strong game as defensive tackle, shutting down the short side of the field and making a fumble recovery. Rookie safety Bryn Malcolm also came up with a fumble recovery for the defense.

Despite the impressive win, the Glaciers remain the sixth ranked team in Football Alberta’s provincial rankings.

After two weeks of play, the Glaciers have allowed only 24 points against, fewer than any other team in Alberta. The Glaciers hit the road to play against Hinton on Friday, Sept. 27 in a battle for first place in the Western division of the Alberta 6-Man Football League.
