Oct. 28th was the day the Jasper Glaciers six-a-side football team travelled to Sunchild to close out its regular season.

The team did so in spectacular fashion, winning the game 70–1 over the Bisons.

The Glaciers first offensive drive was short, only two plays, but a Jack Hilworth run followed by a pitch to David Broemeling and the Glaciers were in the Bison end zone.

The balanced attack of the Glaciers continued through the first half, with a Jake Melanson touchdown pass to Erik Paukstat, while Hilworth, Melanson and Broemeling also ran for majors.

Brandon Lawson played his first game as running back and was an effective runner as he kept his legs pumping after first contact to gain valuable first downs. The score was 40-0 at the half and the outcome was not in doubt.

Special teams also played a role in the game. Dylan Mooney and Hilworth both scored touchdowns on punt returns in the second half and Mooney was good on eight of nine convert attempts, to bring his total to 28 points for the game. Martin

Kreiner and Mooney also scored majors on running plays in the second half. The defense continued its strong play allowing few first downs to the Bisons, while only giving up a 35 yard punt single in the second half.

It was a solid victory in the final regular season game.

The Glaciers are now playoff bound and will host the Buck Mountain Mustangs on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. on Centennial Field.

After a quick playoff exit last year, the Jasper squad is looking to improve as they take on the Mustangs and their strong running game.

It is playoff time and it is do or die, with the winner going on to the provincial semi-finals on Nov. 15.

The community is invited to Centennial Field to cheer on the local team Nov. 8.
