The first week back to school has officially come and gone. To celebrate the new year and to welcome back its students, Jasper Junior/Senior High School held its annual student activity day, Sept. 9.
Not only does this welcome back students, but it also gets students into the mood for education again, said JJSHS vice-principal Eric Bouchard. Although we do this for all the students its really to help make our new Grade 7 students comfortable and allow them to meet other students that they might not normally have the opportunity to speak with.
We also have a handful of international students this year and we want to make sure they start the school year out on a positive note.
The majority of the days activities were organized by the schools Grade 12 class, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills, said Bouchard.
This years theme was the Olympics. Students were split into teams and each team was told it had to represent one of the games sports. Students got creative as they chose everything from rowing to table tennis.
After the teams were divved up it was time to get to workthe students bounced around from station to station, throwing food at each other, dueling it out with water guns and playing rounds of extreme volleyball with a giant ball.
All in all its just an afternoon of fun to get the students excited about being back at school, Bouchard said. Most of the students get really into it and we love seeing that theyre having a good time.
