The event is being held at the Jasper Adult Learning Centre, located at 631 Patricia Street, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Stop by to learn about the post-secondary education options available in Jasper.

Folk songs at Olive

Sarah Burton will rock the Olive Bistro next week.
The alternative folk artist with a soulful voice will take the stage Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Burton has been touring since 2006 and has played Canadian Music Week, the Brandon Folk Festival, Alberta’s North Country Fair and Winterfolk in Toronto, as well as many other venues, including Toronto’s Opera House, where she opened for Kate Voegele.

Rounding bases for the win

Weather permitting, the Jasper Mixed Slo-Pitch final will take place Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.
This year there are nine teams in the league. Coming out on top of regular season play were the Barley Kings with a record of 23–7–2. They were followed closely by the Gangsters, who finished the season with 21–11–0. Rounding out the top three teams was Balls Deep with 19–13–0.
The playoffs began Aug. 12 with four games taking place at Centennial Park. Playoff games will continue Aug. 18, 19 and 21.
In the 2012 final, Balls Deep triumphed over the Barley Kings with a score of 17–12.

Corinne Jeffery, author of the Understanding Ursula trilogy, will be in Jasper for her Western Canada book tour Aug. 20 and 22.
Jeffery, who first started writing her trilogy at the age of 65, will be at SnowDome Coffee Bar with her second book, Thriving: 1920-1939.
The trilogy follows the dramatic lives of the Werner family. It takes place in Saskatchewan and portrays the struggles of a Canadian family during the Great Depression.
Thriving: 1920-1939 reached No. 7 on the Edmonton Bestsellers Fiction List in 2012. Her first novel in the series, Arriving: 1909-1919, hit No. 10 on the same list.
Jeffery’s appearances will take place Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
