Update on Maligne Tours’ proposal
Supt. Greg Fenton hopes to make a decision on Maligne Tours’ conceptual proposal in early February.
To do that, Parks Canada must receive the final proposal, along with a complete analysis of the public comments the company received during its engagement process late last year. That process ended Dec. 15.
Pat Crowley, general manager of Maligne Tours, stated in an email that she hopes to have the analysis completed by the end of the month.
The proposal is to build a 66-room hotel at Maligne Lake, as well as developing new experiences and activities for visitors.
“The decision would be around which element or elements of their proposal we would approve at the conceptual level, to move into a much more detailed review,” said Fenton of the process.
If an approval is made on one or more of the elements in the proposal, Maligne Tours will then be required to create a detailed proposal, as well as undertake an environmental assessment.
Following that, there would be another opportunity for public input.

3–0 for Rustlers
The Jasper Rustlers skated to victory in their tournament last weekend, winning all three of their games.
The first, on Friday night, was against the Edmonton Kryptonites and ended in a score of 3–2.
The following day, the ladies played against the Slave Lake Kodiaks and won 7–2 and on Sunday, the Rustlers won 2–1 over the Edmonton Stingers.
Create reasons to celebrate
Jasper is celebrating a number of milestones over the next 12 months, including Marmot Basin’s 50th anniversary, the 25th anniversary of Jasper in January and the 100-year anniversary of Volunteer Fire Brigade, as well as many others.
To help the community celebrate these events, as well as the dozen or so others that will be popping up over the next year, the Jasper Celebrates initiative has been created.
Businesses are encouraged to join the festive spirit by creating celebratory events to take place over the next year.
To help business owners come up with ideas, the Jasper Celebrates working group is hosting a workshop Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. The workshop will take place in the Robson House on Patricia Street.
