Salman Rasheed, the park’s current resource conservation manager, will become the acting field unit superintendent for JNP until Fehr returns.

According to Parks Canada, Fehr has accepted a four-month acting assignment as the executive director for the Prairies, Yukon, Northwest Territories beginning in mid-February.

Fire crews continue work in JNP

Parks Canada is advising visitors and residents that they may see some smoke in town as fire crews continue to work in and around Jasper during the next few weeks.

Crews have been burning brush to maintain the Jasper fireguard, which was established several years ago to help reduce the wildfire risk.

Parks said there is no need to call 911 or other emergency services to report smoke.

Work on the fireguard is separate from the planned prescribed fire on the Pyramid Bench, now scheduled for spring 2017.
