Starting Sept. 19, the Lake Annette Loop will be closed for approximately two weeks to allow re-paving of the entire loop.

During this time Lake Annette’s first parking lot will be closed to stage construction equipment. The parking lot is expected to open again by the end of September. However, visitors can still use the main parking lots located near the beach.

Park users who want to canoe or kayak on Lake Annette can launch their boats from the main beach area during the closure of the first parking lot (where the dock is located).

Paving of the loop is expected to be completed by the middle of October.

Meeting for Jasper Arena ice users

Calling all ice users.

For groups interested in obtaining ice time at the Jasper Arena, there will be a meeting on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in the arena’s lobby.

Interested user groups should have at least one representative at the meeting. However, minor sports and the commercial league do not need representatives from every team, only a representative for the whole organization is required.

For more information contact arena manager Peter Bridge at 780-852-8137.

Duck Race tickets on sale

Soon hundreds of rubber ducks will bob their way down the Miette River for the 24th annual Duck Race, Sept. 25.

The ducks will be dropped into the river from the Miette Bridge on Highway 93 at 1 p.m.

The Jasper Right to Read Society and the Jasper Yellowhead Historical Society host the quirky fundraiser every year.

To get in on the action pick up a ticket at Jasper Elementary School.

Last year’s race raised $3,500, which was split evenly between the two organizations.

Jasperite Matt Turnbull had the winning duck last year, leaving him with a prize of $1,000.

Music and magic at the legion

Jasper’s own Ryan Michael will amaze both children and adults, Sept. 17, with two magic shows at the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion.

Over the years the magician has been logging tons of experience—his first show was during the 2014 Jasper Pride Festival and since then he’s been performing all over the region, including in July during Parks Day.

The children’s show begins at 4 p.m., while the adult show, which will include a musical performance by Brian Lackey, starts at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the door.
