As we bundle up with down jackets and wool toques to brave the cold winter months, one local group is reminding Jasperites that not everyone has that luxury.

Mountains of Relief, a not-for-profit organization, has spent more than a year collecting thousands of dollars to help rebuild Nepal after a devastating earthquake that killed nearly 9,000 people in April 2015.

The group’s main project is to help rebuild a school which was completely destroyed during the earthquake, but as winter approaches both here in Jasper and in Nepal, Mountains of Relief is calling on locals to dig through their closets and donate any warm winter clothing that they are no longer using.

All the collected items will then be sent to Nepal, giving warmth to those who have gone without.

For donation pick-up, call Sherrill Meropolis at 780-852-5187 or Raj Ghimire at 780-931-9040. Winter garb can also be dropped of at Coco’s Cafe on Patricia Street.

Monetary collection jars for the organization can also be found at several businesses in town.
