Prince George – Valemount gearing up for general election

So far only two confirmed candidates have registered their intentions of running in the forthcoming British Columbia general election in the Prince George – Valemount riding. BC Liberal incumbent Shirley Bond, who is also the Minister of Justice, has held the seat for three terms. BC NDP candidate and Prince George media personality Sherry Ogaswara will be facing Bond at the polls on May 14. However, potential candidates have until April 26 to register.

Kicking off the election race last week, Ogasawara paid a visit to the Robson Valley Region. She attended gatherings in Dunster and Crescent Spur and met with local government officials and residents in McBride and Valemount.

Following last year’s heated dispute between Premier Christy Clark of British Columbia and Premier Alison Redford of Alberta over the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline, Albertans will be looking west with interest in May when British Columbians go to the polls. Clark has indicated that she will block the proposed pipeline should the risks outweigh the benefits to British Columbia.

Next Jasper Film Club feature has moved

Due to an unexpected scheduling conflict, the Jasper Film Club will be unable to show their next feature on the regularly scheduled date.

A Royal Affair, a gripping tale of brave idealists who risk everything in the pursuit of freedom for their people, will be shown at the Chaba Theatre at 7 p.m. on April 11. Film club members are asked to pass on this scheduling change to their friends. Look for a film synopsis in the next issue of the 51°µÍø.
