High school update

Work is ticking along on the new high school on the corner of Bonhomme Street and Elm Avenue.

According to a summary of work presented to the Grande Yellowhead Public School Board Oct. 25, foundation and backfilling are complete and masonry work was about 60 per cent complete, with block walls going up around the perimetre of the gym and north wall.

Structural steel work, as well as concrete slabs are complete, and pressed steel door frames were being installed in exterior masonry walls.

Heating lines, air handling units, boilers and humidifiers have all been placed in the mechanical room and the interior partition framing has begun.

The new school, which will house both the Jasper Junior/Senior High School, as well as Ecole Desrocher, is set for completion for the 2014-15 school year.

The school board receives a monthly construction update on the new joint school facility.

Break in the line

A water main break left residents of the Walk-Up apartments and the Cabin Creek East townhouses without water for 11 hours, Nov. 7.

The break occurred on the 1000-block of Patricia Street, between Willow Avenue and Ash Avenue, around 12 noon and it was repaired, with water restored to all of the homes, at 11:45 p.m.

Municipal crews made two attempts to fix the break, first trying to repair it and then opting to replace a portion of the pipe.
