Facelift for grocery store
Super A is beginning a major renovation that will create more space on the sales floor, allowing for a greater variety of stock.
“We’re not expanding up or out. It’s all internal,” said Joe Boucher, grocery manager for the store.
The renovation will see the produce, meat and bakery departments move to the basement, allowing for the sales floor to expand into their existing production areas.
Construction will begin in the basement on Nov. 18. Once the production areas are complete, the contractors will move upstairs to the sales floor.
When that happens, there might a store closure for a few days, said Boucher, who expects that might take place in January.
“This is definitely an overdue change,” he said. “Every year seems to get busier and busier and we definitely need more floor space to keep up with the demand.
“We’d really like to carry what people want to see.”
Watch for wildlife
Alberta Transportation is reminding drivers to be extra careful on the roads in the coming weeks, as November is the month with the greatest number of wildlife collisions.
According to the provincial department, about 18 per cent of wildlife collisions take place this month. That represents 13,250 accidents in the last five years.
On average, there are 1,249 animal crashes each month, but in November, the average climbs to 2,650.
“Whether on highways or country roads, I encourage drivers to be watchful during this time of year and always be prepared to respond if you see an animal near the road,” stated Ric McIver, minister of transportation, in a press release.
“Considering half of all collisions on rural roads involve animals, we can make our roads a lot safer by being aware of the risks.”
Alberta Transportation recommends drivers slow down and use caution in areas with wildlife warning signs or animal crossing signs, and suggests that drivers be especially careful at dawn and dusk when animals are more active.
