Rubber ducky, you’re the one

Dozens of ducks will waddle their way off the Miette River Bridge at precisely 1 p.m. Sept. 29 to raise funds for two worthy organizations.
That’s right, the Duck Race is back for yet another year.
Tickets for the 21st annual Right to Read Society and Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives fundraiser are on sale now.
The winner of the big race is the first duck to make it from the Miette River Bridge at Highway 93 to the bridge at Tekkara Lodge.
A prize of $1,000 will go to the top duck. The holder of the second duck will get $300, and the third place quacker will receive $200. All of the remaining proceeds from the $5 tickets go to the two charities.
Tickets are available by calling Annette Brown at 780-931-6158.

Culture Days workshop

Edmonton poet and non-fiction writer Shirley Serviss will facilitate a writing workshop, Sept. 29, at the Seniors Lounge in the activity centre.
Serviss teaches at Grant McEwan University. The workshop is an Alberta Culture Days event and was organized as a result of the library’s partnership with the Writer’s Guild of Alberta.
The workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and is free.
To register, call the library at 780-852-3652 or email  [email protected].

Volunteer at the cemetery

Parks Canada is looking for volunteers to do some light trail and cemetery brushing at Pocahontas Cemetery tomorrow, Sept. 27.
Although not mandatory, it would be helpful to have the Jasper Trail Alliance Level 1 sightline clearing certification, as volunteers will be clipping and removing juniper and wild rose bush growing in the area.
The clearing will take place between 12 noon and 5 p.m.
To take part, contact [email protected].

School Terry Fox Run

Jasper Elementary School is hosting its school-wide Terry Fox Run today, Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m.
The school’s running club will be hitting the trails, while the rest of the students will run around the block. Depending on the age of the students, teachers will choose to take them for a one or two kilometre run. Parents are invited to run, as well.
The students are also collecting pledges for the run.
To pledge online, go to www.terryfoxrun.org and click “Terry Fox National School Run Day” on the bottom left.
