It's easy to judge when it doesn't affect you

Dear Editor,

Re: ‘Selfish’ to put recreation over preservation (Nov. 27)

Ms. Jensen: It seems that moving out of the Park has not only given you new perspective, but a wheel barrow full of sanctimony as well. It follows that since you moved away any decisions that negatively affect the locals no longer affect you.

Could that have something to do with your support of those decisions?

It is very easy to be noble about consequences that only affect others. You said you grew up when you moved away; did you? Or did you just become immersed in your new reality? A change in perspective that comes with a change in address is to be expected as old realities fade into new, and different parameters are applied. The fish in the lake has an entirely different view of the ant hill than the ants.

Which view is valid? Probably both.

It is a curiosity of the human condition that allows Group A to judge, restrict and regulate Group B with such giddy enthusiasm. I mean heavens, I am appalled at the practice of the Sub-Saharans who cut what little wood is left to heat their water and cook their food. Egads! Don’t they know this leads to desert encroachment on their land, there should be a law!

Oh... excuse me, the kettle is boiling and I am off to make some tea. Darn those Sub-Saharans!
