Parks Canadas film Through Ice and Time won its first award this past week, picking up the Best Photography prize at the Matsalu International Nature Film Festival in Estonia, which is the home country of the films director, Alar Kivilo.

Jasper National Parks entry was shortlisted from over 200 films from around the world, and beat 15 other finalists in the category of Man and Nature.

The film has also been shortlisted in the Banff Mountain Film Festival, in the category of Mountain Environment, and will be screened for the festival audience the week of Oct. 28.

Parks Canada commissioned the 20-minute film to showcase the majestic Columbia Icefield area, and to help connect visitors with the landscape, inspire discovery and show them areas that are normally beyond reach. Through Ice and Time will be permanently installed in the newly renovated Columbia Icefield Visitor Centre in 2014.

Congratulations to Jaspers local talentDana Ruddy, Eddie Klopfenstein, Dylan Skinner, Nico Magnan, Sean Elliot, Wyatt Bell and Erika Whittyand director Alar Kivilo for this award!
