Among the seven legends are Theoren Fleury, Claude Lemieux, Tiger Williams, and Marty McSorley.

“The old timers will be supplemented with a few of our older players and they will play young stars, an all star team of young players from the Hinton Heat and the old Jasper Wolves,” said Peter Hayashi, who’s responsible for organizing the game. “These guys can still really skate, so it’s going to be a good game.”

The event is a fundraiser for Greg Van Tighem’s End to End to End MS campaign.

“We’re doing it for Greg,” said Hayashi. “We’re trying to make his goal. He’s a little bit short, so this is a push to the end.”

Van Tighem is about $28,000 short of his $93,000 fundraising goal and he only has until the end of September to get there.

To ensure his success, Hayashi has organized not only the hockey game on Saturday night, but a whole weekend worth of activities with the hockey legends.

Following the game, the players will make their way to Champs Sports Lounge in the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre for an open house.

The following day they will hit the links at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge with golfers who have paid to join their foursomes for a fun and competitive tournament.

The weekend will then wrap up with a banquet, complete with a “hot stove” interview with the players and a live and silent auction.

“We have some really cool live auction prizes,” said Hayashi. “We have a really interesting one where you can actually devise a beer at the Banff Brewing Co. and they will actually name the beer after you. That of course will go with accommodation and meals and stuff like that.”

Tickets to the game are available at the Jasper Liquor Lodge and the Jasper Brewing Co., as well as by contacting Hayashi at 780-852-8102.

“This year we expect to sell it out,” he said, noting that tickets are $20 for confirmed seating and $15 for general admission, while anyone that’s “minor hockey league age, that’s basically from four until 17” is $5. Kids under four are free.
