Twinkling stars, smoking rockets, gazing eyes and celebrity speakers made the third annual Dark Sky Festival a hit last weekend.

With each year the event has grown infinitely bigger, this year attracting the likes of Jay Ingram and David Levy to Jasper. Both men, one the former host of Daily Planet and the other a prolific comet discoverer, spoke at numerous events throughout the weekend, sharing their passion for astronomy.

Also in town for the event was Peter McMahon, the man who help Jasper receive its designation as a dark sky preserve.

Jasper received its designation from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in 2011. Since then, Tourism Jasper has been celebrating Jasper's dark skies with a festival each October.
