The three-week holiday recovery period is over and now it’s time for another host of festivities, as we welcome back Jasper’s signature winter festival: Jasper in January.

If you so choose, for the next 17 days, you can fill your agenda with events and activities every night of the week. Beginning Friday, Jan. 16, there are options coming out the yin-yang for fun and exciting ways to spend your time. There are numerous venues hosting bands, there’s a kick-off party, an arts event, brewery tours and blues dancing—and that’s just the first night.

Switch your focus to the entire festival and you’ll see more than 60 events to choose from.

Sounds exhausting doesn’t it?

Well lucky for all of you, we’ve been through this a few times and have some tips on how to not only survive, but thoroughly enjoy this amazing winter festival.

First things first, set yourself a budget. You can easily deplete your entire bank account, attending each and every event. So, in the interest of paying rent and eating for the remainder of the month, set yourself a maximum dollar amount and stick to it.

That may sound easier said than done, but if you follow our remaining tips, it should be a breeze.

Up next is research.

Take an hour and sit down with the festival line-up and pick out the events that sound too good to miss; then hit the Jasper in January website, read all about them and write down your favourites.

You’ll likely find yourself selecting far more activities than you can possibly manage, so next, take that list and prioritize.

With your budget in mind, check out the price points on each event and make some tough decisions, narrowing down your choices, leaving yourself at least one or two nights of relaxation.

Then once you’re happy with your list, grab your day planner and create your very own Jasper in January schedule.

Now, don’t forget, some events require tickets, so be sure to snag them in advance to ensure you enjoy each and every event on your list.

After that, it’s just a matter of getting your butt to your venue of choice.

We recommend Loud and Proud at the Whistle Stop Pub, the Pentathalon at Pyramid Lake, the ATCO Street Party—especially the fireworks—and the Chili Cook-Off.

See you out there!
