But you will get a chance to embrace your inner poet and share your art with the world for April’s Poetry Month.
April 10 is the Open Mic Poetry Night at the SnowDome Coffee bar—a chance for bards and authors of all ages to share their works with an appreciative audience.
Unlike last year’s event, this will not be a contest. There are no prizes except the applause and accolades from the audience. It’s all about the love of the spoken word.
Janeen Keelan at the Jasper library (main sponsor of the event) says the contest aspect was dropped this year because organizers want to encourage people to participate. “And it’s hard enough for someone to get up in front of people and read their poetry without the added pressure of a contest.”
The evening starts at 7 p.m. at the SnowDome and co-owner Shelley Koebel guarantees that the coffee bar will be open. The event will be live-streamed by Habitat for the Arts on their website. .
