Dear Editor,
No to a hotel!!
We were at Maligne Lake two springs ago. We saw harlequin ducks, eagles and swallows in the river leading from the lake. The harlequin in particular need fast moving mountain streams to breed and raise their young. The Maligne River is just such an environment—the only one east of the Rockies.
The development of a huge hotel, which most Canadians could not afford, on this limited space would certainly negatively impact these birds, not to mention the intrusion of motorized toys of the wealthy guests on the sensitive and endangered mountain caribou in the region.
