Dear Editor:
As can be expected in any resort community where millions visit annually and the stress on infrastructure, including business operations is a given, it is important to note that there are many, many owner/operators who go above and beyond not only in service to visitors but to make the living and working world of employees both pleasurable and positively memorable.
Our disappointment with the interview published in the Sept. 1 edition of the 51°µÍø is two-fold. First, the primary strategic goal for the Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce is ‘attraction and retention’ of employees; the Chamber and it’s members work hard toward making Jasper a great place to enjoy a rewarding life and work experience; offering staff outings, training, team atmospheres and importantly respect for the work they do. Indeed, how often are employers in the trenches with front line staff, serving coffee, folding sheets and otherwise pitching in as required? The interview does not reflect that effort.
Point number two includes the word ‘lopsided’. As noted already, there are many owner/operators who work side-by-side and share responsibility for our destination reputation. The Chamber would be more than pleased to add balance by providing the 51°µÍø with examples of happy employees, successful operations and finally the fulfilling role played by all in making memories for our visitors each and every day.
Sincerely,
Pattie Pavlov, General Manager
