Recently, Jasper artist Libby Weir did an artist in residency project with students from the Jasper Junior/Senior High School, and the resulting clay tiles will be used to create a mural in the new school, which is set to open next September. The tiles were based on a writing assignment the students did, exploring their experiences living in Jasper. As well as the tiles, Weir taught the students to work with charcoal and clay and to draw a variety of still life objects. Funding for the residency project came from a $6,000 grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, as well as from the school’s Parent Advisory Council.
