If Jasper isn’t already famous for its breathtaking landscapes, it’s now on its way to becoming a full-blown reality TV star.
Lately, the community has been teeming with film crews intrigued by our Rocky Mountain town and the people who call it home.
In February, Jeff Schwarz was here to film with Jasperite Dave Miller at the Jasper Buy, Sell and Trade shop for an episode of OLN’s The Liquidator. The episode has yet to air, but Schwarz spent the entire day in town, exploring the community—including its most popular watering holes—and filming in Miller’s shop as he tried to “buy low and sell high.”
Adding to Jasper’s growing fame, last weekend, comedian John Catucci of the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here! was in town, filming at the the Downstream Restaurant and Lounge and the Jasper Brewing Company, highlighting some of Jasper’s over-the-top comfort foods.
On the menu at the brew pub was everything from buffalo curry to crispy chicken wings, while over at the Downstream, Catucci got a taste of elk steak and the roasted duck clubhouse sandwich.
As well as the food, the show also featured more than a dozen locals enjoying their favourite meals, all making yummy noises as they described the decadent flavour combinations.
This isn’t the first time Jasper’s been on the Food Network, either. Last year, David Husereau, owner of Tekarra Restaurant, competed against three other Canadian chefs in an episode of Chopped Canada.
With reality television taking over the airwaves these days, all of this exposure is nothing to sneeze at.
Through these appearances, however big or small, Jasper’s name is being spread across the country, and into countries around the world, not only as a place to enjoy spectacular views, but to eat world class food and pick up great deals.
If we pair that exposure with the coverage we’ll receive when the Tour of Alberta rolls through the park in September, broadcasting to 40 million viewers, it becomes invaluable.
Through these television appearances, we’re building brand recognition and ensuring Jasper’s name is known around the world.
