Two people dead after collision in JNP

Two people are dead and one is injured after a head-on collision in Jasper National Park. Jasper RCMP responded to the collision on Highway 16 near Talbot Lake at 7:45 p.m, Dec. 7. Police said the collision involved a semi truck and an SUV.

Jasper RCMP responded to the collision on Highway 16 near Talbot Lake at 7:45 p.m, Dec. 7.

Police said the collision involved a semi truck and an SUV. The driver and passenger of the SUV died on scene. The man driving the truck was taken to hospital by ground ambulance.

Highway 16 was closed overnight, with eastbound traffic diverted in town and westbound traffic diverted at Highway 40 near Hinton.

The highway reopened around 3:30 a.m.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene, but so far the cause of the crash is still unknown, and is still under investigation.

Police have not provided any other details about the victims.
