INNISFAIL - Innisfail RCMP and a specialized Alberta Sheriffs unit teamed up over three days to execute 22 arrest warrants that led to the arrest of 16 people in Innisfail and Red Deer County.
The operation also led to the capture of a parole offender who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
RCMP Cpl. Guillaume Lamoureux said in a media release issued Tuesday that Innisfail RCMP, with assistance from the Alberta Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team (FASST), engaged in a targeted enforcement operation attempting to locate and arrest local and regional offenders who were currently wanted on warrants.
He said the arrest warrants ranged from a provincial violation to Criminal Code warrants.
During the three-day operation Mounties and sheriffs nabbed Joshua Atkinson, 50, a parole offender who was on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large, said Lamoureux.
“Innisfail RCMP and FASST would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding,” said Lamoureux. “Innisfail RCMP conduct operations like this multiple times throughout the year to ensure public safety, and to ensure participants of the justice system complete the required process.”
In the meantime, Innisfail RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the location of, or sightings of criminal activity in local neighbourhoods.
