Fire at Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village contained, according to RCMP

RCMP say a fire at Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, near Elk Island Park, is now under control. An update was released by RCMP at 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

ALBERTA - RCMP say a fire at Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, near Elk Island Park, is now under control.

An update was released by RCMP at 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

"The evacuation order has been lifted and Highway 16 is now open for travel," reads the updated information. "Emergency crews will still be in the area fighting what is left of the fires and the public is asked to remain vigilant and to please avoid any actions that could contribute to lowering the effectiveness of their work."

RCMP also provided images of the efforts.

Emergency crews were called out to the area at about 5:30 p.m. on April 18. RCMP had confirmed that "the fire has spread to structures in the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village," in an earlier media release.
