Happy New Year!
With this, our first edition of 2021, we are entering a new chapter for the 51°µÍø.
Before the holidays, you may have noticed our advertisements for a publisher/editor. I will soon be stepping away from the 51°µÍø on maternity leave, and with this issue I am passing the reins to my replacement, Peter Shokeir.
Peter has moved to Jasper and the 51°µÍø from Grande Prairie, where he served as an editor for the Grande Prairie Daily Herald-Tribune, along with three weekly publications. He has a strong background in local journalism and will be a great fit for this newspaper and community.
I feel I am leaving this publication in excellent hands as I embark on a new chapter in my own life: becoming a mother.
It is an exciting time, with new experiences just around the corner and many lessons to be learned - not unlike when I took on this role in September 2019. We have gone through a lot together over the past year and a half, especially during this wretched pandemic. There have been some difficult times but I felt privileged to be at the helm of this community newspaper through it all - keeping you informed and sharing your stories.
I am now looking forward to being involved in the community in a new way. Over the past four years I have gone from seasonal worker to settled Jasperite, to newspaper editor, and next to mom. All avenues of life in Jasper have brought me great joy and I truly love this little mountain town with a big heart.
Thank you for your kind feedback and words of support and encouragement during my time here.
Please join me in a warm welcome to Peter. He can now be reached at [email protected], and you can contact me at [email protected] for the next few weeks as we go through this transition period.Ìý
I hope 2021 brings you all good health and happiness, and that we can meet in person again soon!
