A fatal collision resulting in one dead has closed Highway 16 about 18 kilometres west of Hinton on July 19.
At around 5:40 p.m., Hinton RCMP received a report of a collision involving four vehicles, specifically a car, two SUVs and a semi-trailer.
Although the investigation is still unfolding, police said the collision occurred at the intersection of the Wildhorse Lake Campground turnoff on Highway 16.
RCMP confirmed that a driver of one of the SUV's succumbed to their injuries and died on scene.
Three other passengers from the same SUV were transported with serious injuries to hospital—some via STARS Air Ambulance.
Two occupants of the second SUV were injured with one of them taken to hospital via ground ambulance.
The two occupants of the car were not injured.
The area of the collision, involving both the eastbound and westbound lanes, is currently closed to traffic and is expected to stay that way until 3 a.m. July 20.
Due to the geographic area, traffic is unable to be re-routed.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area, and significant delays in the area are expected due to large backlogs of traffic.
UPDATE: All lanes have been reopened.
