A man has been charged for attempting to steal catalytic converters during a break and enter at a business on Felaber Road in Hinton.
On Dec. 9, Hinton RCMP received reports of a break and enter in progress.
Police arrived to find the suspect being restrained by witnesses who had discovered him attempting to steal the catalytic converters.
Along with the catalytic converters, other items recovered included tools, saws, cable cutters and blades, as well as weapons including bear spray and a knife.
The damaged catalytic converters were estimated to require around $11,000 in repairs.
“The Hinton RCMP will continue to relentlessly pursue the reduction of property crime in Hinton and Yellowhead County,” said Acting Detachment Commander Sgt. Graham Gurski in a news release.
Lyle Alan Wilson, 30, of no fixed address is charged with the following offences from this incident:
- Assault with a weapon
- Mischief over $5,000
- Possession of break-in Instruments
- Carry a concealed weapon
- Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Theft under $5,000
- Fail to comply with condition of release order
Wilson also had outstanding warrants for arrest from Morinville for identity fraud, obstruct peace officer and fail to attend court.
Following a judicial hearing, Alan was released on conditions and is next scheduled to appear in Hinton Provincial Court on Dec. 15.
