Hinton RCMP investigating after firearm discharged near Wildhay

Hinton RCMP are looking for a suspect who allegedly discharged a firearm near the Wildhay River Provincial Recreation area on May 23.

After receiving the report at around 2:30 p.m., police responded and searched the area for several hours, but the suspect was not located.

No one was physically injured in this incident.

"We had interviewed everyone in the area, we had contained the area, we had evacuated some people, and we had exhausted that and we had conducted some interviews last night and got a better description," said Cpl. Deanna Fontaine in a May 26 interview.

The male suspect is described as:

  • Approximately 6’ tall
  • Male had a large abdomen
  • Approximately 240 lbs
  • Caucasian
  • No facial hair
  • Short, light coloured blonde hair

The suspect was possibly wearing either a rolled-up purple, short-sleeve, tight shirt or T-shirt, as well as white shorts, possibly khakis or surf shorts.

He may have been driving a side-by-side UTV with a yellow hood up.

Those who may have seen an adult male with a firearm matching the description are asked to contact the Hinton RCMP at 780-865-2455.
