Local youth Casey Paterson has raised nearly $2,000 through various fundraising efforts to buy feed for the animals at the Hinton & District SPCA.
Paterson raised $500 in 2020 and raised the rest in 2021.
“So, I saw this sad ad on TV about the homeless dogs and I felt really sad for them so I thought I’d like to help them,” Paterson said.
Paterson raised funds through making homemade soap and collecting bottles through the community.
Paterson and his mother Twila went up to buy the feed from Peavey Mart Grande Prairie, with the store matching up to $500 in purchases with $500 more.
He was also able to see the fruits of his labours at the Hinton SPCA.
“I got to see the dogs and puppies and they were really cute,” Paterson said.
Although the fundraising was ultimately rewarding, Paterson said it was a lot of work and wanted to take a break.
“I’m not sure what’s going to happen next, but I think I want to help the homeless too,” he said.
His mother Twila Paterson wanted to thank Peavey Mart for reaching out and supporting children with good causes.
In addition, she thanked Tasha Porttin from Jasper mettra Pharmacy for allowing her son to set up a soap sale in her store.
“Definitely would also like to thank our amazing little community for supporting Casey with every soap sale or bottle pick up. Every time we did a Facebook ad, the responses were overwhelming,” she added.
“We are very proud of Casey’s accomplishments. He is a wile kid with an extremely big heart. We can’t wait to see what he gets up to next.”
