Dear editor,
I have a big concern with the newly renovated Jasper swimming pool changerooms.
My question is what positive benefit is there to having only one changeroom for both male and female to share? I can see none. I am appalled and confused as to why this new changeroom was changed from separate male and female to a coed changeroom.
This leaves open many doors to possible psychological and physical damage to either female and or male users of the room. What would this do to a child using the room, especially while unattended by a parent, if someone does something inappropriate such as touching them or children seeing adults of the opposite sex walking around the room naked and many more issues?
In my view, I feel the Municipality of Jasper needs to take a serious look at the issue and change the rooms back to how they were before the upgrade, as something serious is going to happen.
The space has a common area for lockers and private rooms for changing. However, just because there are individual changerooms does not ensure everyone is using them. Some people are quite OK with strutting around naked. With opposite sexes sharing the space, lord knows what is happening.
"There is not a staff member on duty in the changerooms. They may do a walk through periodically throughout a shift or maybe not if they are busy (as quoted from the Municipality of Jasper)." A lot of scary things can happen in there.
A concerned citizen,
Marilyn Carling
