The 10 new tents will also be located at Whistlers, along with the three cottage tents that are already there.

Last year, the cottage tents and one oTENTik were extremely popular, said Alisson Ogle, communications officer for Jasper National Park. “All four were almost fully booked all last summer.

“So we’re super excited about the 10 more we’re getting.”

Ogle said the new tents will be located at Whistlers, as well, because it’s the perfect campground for families and new campers—the groups that are most likely to utilize the new service.

Each oTENTik site will come with a table, chairs, a fire pit, dish washing sinks, a picnic table, grey water disposal, bear proof garbage bins and three beds to accommodate up to six visitors. That leaves campers to bring only their food, personal items and sleeping bags.

“Parks Canada’s oTENTik sites will offer a unique mix of comfort and adventure in the great outdoors, bringing visitors closer to nature while providing a roof over their heads and a floor beneath their feet,” stated Tracy Thiessen, Parks Canada’s executive director of the mountain national parks, in a press release.

As well as the 10 new sites to come to Jasper in 2014, Parks Canada is also setting up 20 in Banff and Kootenay national parks this season. They are expected to be open by mid-summer.

Those sites will be offered on a first come, first served basis this year, while in 2014, bookings will be moved to Parks Canada’s reservation system.
