The chilly morning rain did little to dissuade golfers Sept. 6.

Just before 8 a.m. they lounged in golf carts, munching free pizza, as they waited for the links to open.

They were there for the Jasper Victim Services golf tournament at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

The event has become incredibly popular over its five-year run, attracting teams from across the province.

Travis Flaman was on one of those teams. The jolly Edmontonian, representing The Four Putz team, was one of very few golfers who managed to score at the third holes chipping contest.

I love it, he said of the event, the dinner and the people and the prizes. Plus, its for a good cause: you cant beat it.

For less than the cost of a round of golf on the course, participants got to play in the tournament, eat a free dinner, as well as tons of food and drinks along the way.

After the tournament, the silent auction and the dinner, Jaspers Victim Services Coordinator, Paul Schmidt, estimates the unit raised more than $15,000.

None of it would have been possible, of course, without the hoard of JVSU volunteers that turned up to work booths, run food and drinks to participants and sell tickets.
