Remains found at Brule sand dunes
Hinton RCMP are investigating the discovery of remains found on Tuesday, April 23 at the Brule sand dunes.
The remains, which haven’t yet been identified as human or otherwise, were spotted by quadders, who then contacted the RCMP.
The remains were transported to the medical examiner’s office in Edmonton Friday, April 26. There they will be examined.
According to a press release, determining the origin of the remains is integral in defining the next investigational steps.
The Hinton RCMP anticipate further updates will be released later this week.
Spring Run Off registration open
Registration is open for Totem Ski Shop’s 29th annual Spring Run Off.
The fun race happens on Mother’s Day, which is May 12 this year. The course is a 10 kilometre loop that begins and ends at Lake Annette. The route has a gentle grade and offers a mix of trail and road running.
Registration is $25 before May 9. That can be done in person at Totem Ski Shop and Jasper Source for Sports. Registration can also be completed online at . Entry on race day is $35.
This year’s race proceeds will be donated to the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives, which is currently fundraising for a new roof.
Snowy beach party
Marmot Basin’s Beach Party on the Mountain is Saturday, May 4. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best beachwear to enjoy some spring skiing, live music, giveaways and discounted lift tickets.
Performing during the event is singer-songwriter Brendan Kelly. The Edmontonian plays his own brand of blues-rock, with influences from Colin James, Stevie Ray Vaughn, U2 and Lenny Kravitz.
The event takes place between noon and 3 p.m.
Marmot closes for the season on Sunday, May 5.
