Rate payers will notice an increase this year, primarily due to the Alberta School Foundation increase, she reminded. A residential property in Jasper assessed at $750,000 will receive a tax increase of $445, $354 of which goes straight to Alberta school taxes, leaving only $92 to the municipality.
“Every property assessment is different because every property is different,” said Troy Birtles of Accurate Assessment Group Ltd. “Just because the overall market increased by three per cent doesn’t mean the property will go up by three per cent.”
This year’s tax assessments have been mailed out. If a resident doesn’t agree with their assessment value, they can fill out a complaint form which can be obtained at the municipality’s administration office or through the link provided on the municipality’s website.
