A 21-year-old man from Victoria, B.C. died as a result of a car accident that occurred on Highway 16 East early Monday morning.

At the time of the accident, which took place near the Jasper Transfer Station, the deceased was driving westbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado truck. An investigation by the RCMP showed that his vehicle crossed the centre line and then collided with an eastbound 2012 Ford F350 that was pulling a trailer.
The driver of the Ford truck, a 35-year-old man from Edmonton, suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, according to the RCMP.

The accident left both lanes of Highway 16 closed for a few hours before one lane was opened to alternating traffic. Both lanes were open by about 3 p.m.

The RCMP is not releasing the name of the deceased.
