The Pride Awards returned for its second-year last weekend to recognize four recipients for their contributions to the LGBTQ2S+ community.

The awards were presented during the Jasper Pride Awards Brunch at the Forest Park Hotel on April 23, the last day of the Jasper Pride and Ski Festival.

The Fruit Loop Society of Alberta was named LGBTQ2S+ Community Organization of the Year.

The society is an Edmonton-based, volunteer-led non-profit social enterprise that provides inclusive events, dynamic social media and special initiatives for Alberta’s LGBTQ2S+ community.

Fruit Loop recently hosted its Jasper Pride Mountain Party to kick off the Jasper Pride Festival.

No representative was available to accept the award in person, but Fruit Loop did provide a video message thanking the Jasper Pride Festival for the award.

Whistler’s Inn received the Proud Business of the Year award for being a supporter of the Jasper Pride Festival and promoting Jasper as a welcoming and inclusive destination.

Piper/Evans Davis was named Youth of the Year for her dedication to advocating for LGBTQ2S+ youth in the community, such as by being the leader of the local gender-sexuality alliance.

Kelly Dawson accepted the Person of the Year award for her volunteer work with multiple groups, including Jasper Pride.

The Awards Brunch also included a buffet breakfast, Caesar station, live entertainment and the screening of a 20-minute document about the history of Jasper Pride.
