“We really felt it was important to support Jasper Pride,” said Kari McQueen, operations director of the Fairy Tales Presentation Society. “One of the things that Fairy Tales as a group really believes in is reach ... the reason we’re coming to Jasper is because there’s not a lot of venues or places in Alberta that you can go to see queer cinema.”
The Fairy Tales Presentation Society oversees the Fairy Tales Film Festival, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The society has selected a few festival films to screen in Jasper.
“The films are not just from this year’s festival, but we’ve selected what we felt were the strongest examples from the last few years,” said McQueen. The audience will receive a “fun sampling of great queer films from around the world.”
In accordance with Alberta film classifications, she assigns a 14A rating because some of the shorts have foul language and innuendo. “It’s certainly not racy or risqué, we were really conscientious to have this appeal to as broad an audience as possible.”
Tickets for the dinner and screening are $52.25, including tax. “Five dollars for each ticket sold is a donation to the Fairy Tales Film Festival, which is really awesome,” said McQueen.
Flicks and Treats begins with cocktails at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. To ensure no one misses the Fairy Tales and Legends party afterwards, a complimentary shuttle will transport attendees to the Activity Centre at 8:30 p.m.
