Cyclists took on the mountains of Jasper National Park and rode down the Icefields Parkway during the seventh edition of the Gran Fondo on June 3.
Hosted by MultiSportsCanada, the event had five different routes, with the Forte Fondo being the longest of them all at 190 kilometres and the Gran Fondo being the second longest at 165 kilometres.
The shorter routes included the 126-km Leg Burner, the 100-km Medio Fondo and the 65-km Piccolo Fondo and E-Bike Fondo.
All the routes began at the Jasper Activity Centre and went out of town down the Icefields Parkway before turning off at Highway 93A.
The longer routes featured mountain climbs, such as Marmot Road and Edith Cavell Road.
The weather was modestly warm in the morning before hitting the high 20s in the afternoon.
Those who came in first for each category were Declan Unsworth for the 190-km Forte, Jordan Easterby for the 165-km Gran, Trev Williams for the 126-km Leg Burner, Mandy Williams for the 100-km Medio and Mark Scheffer for the 65-km Piccolo.
Brendan Taylor came in first for the 10-km Hill Climb.
The Jasper-Yellowhead Museum was the charity for the event and the primary volunteer base.
Started in 2014, the Gran Fondo Jasper is Canada’s only fondo to take place within a national park.
