Tom Kofin | Special to the 51°µÍø
Ask these four people how long they have known each other – and they can truly say they have known each other all of their lives.
June (Baker) Kohar, Jim Gross, Tom Kofin and Frank Wells have a very special connection to each other – and their Jasper hometown. These four, along with Charley Lariviere, spent the first week of April 1950 as newborns at the old Seton Hospital.
Growing up in the late ‘50s and through the ‘60s, they were classmates at the old Jasper Elementary School, continuing along to graduate from Jasper Junior Senior High in 1968.
Though all four left Jasper after high school to follow their life paths, their common Jasper history (and families) remain an important part of who they are, and who they have become.
Every five years since 1968, without fail, they and their former classmates have met to celebrate their Jasper roots. This year marks 55 years since then – which just happens to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of the Jasper-Yellowhead Historical Society.
Time to celebrate all of that! These former Jasperites, many of their classmates and many former residents of Jasper will be taking part in a much larger gathering. Jasper Homecoming 2023 and the JYHS 60th Anniversary celebration is happening Aug. 27, 28 and 29, 2023. It is an event open to anyone who has ever called Jasper home – and everyone is welcome.
Go to the JYHS Website (www.jaspermuseum.org), where this hyperlink takes you to Bulletins and further information or drop into the museum. A slight increase in cost came into effect on Aug. 14 – good value for dollar at $125.00!
