Artists’ reception
In celebration of the Jasper Artists Guild’s Summer Exhibition, the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives will host an artists’ reception from 7–10 p.m. on June 27.
The event includes a cash bar and offers guests a chance to view the exhibit, meet the artists and discuss their work. The summer exhibition is available for daily viewing at the museum between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. until September 30.
This summer JAG will also be displaying its work in a new gallery in the Clock Tower Mall, across from Jasper Rock and Jade. It is open from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Jasper recognized by HuffPost
The Miette Hot Springs, our “wild” wildlife, Spirit Island and the Continental Divide are just a few of the reasons online news magazine, the Huffington Post has deemed Jasper one of the 35 most amazing national parks on earth.
Though Banff is typically the first place associated with the Canadian Rockies by most tourists, the Post challenges the notion, describing Jasper as a larger, wilder, and “according to many” richer national park.
Jasper placed sixteenth on the list which includes Arenal Volcano National Park in Costa Rica, Yosemite National Park in the United States and Cinque Terre in Italy. The list was based on the suggestions, tips and photos from over one million travellers.

Programming at Old Fire Hall a go
June 19, PDAC gave its recommendation that Parks Canada’s be allowed to operate an interpretive centre and retail store out of the Old Fire Hall.
The recommendation came after Parks applied to conduct interpretive programming, display cultural exhibits, conduct community recreation programs and provide retail services out of the building-all of which are discretionary use-May 22.
The committee made its recommendation to Park Superintendent Greg Fenton and Vice President of Operations for the West and North Bill Fisher, who reviewed and accepted it shortly after.
With the green light given, Parks will begin offering free programs, as well as some for-fee workshops, in the building from 12-9 p.m. daily, starting June 28 and running to Aug. 31.
