Welcome to a new generation of the 51°µÍø.
I feel honoured to announce that I have taken over as publisher and editor of this wonderful newspaper.
Thank you to Craig Gilbert, who has moved to Yellowknife for a new opportunity, for his three years of hard work here.
And as I take the helm of the 51°µÍø, I would like to take the chance to introduce the first-class team behind the pages.
Some of you will already know me from my work as a reporter for the 51°µÍø over the past year.
And yes, Fuchsia Dragon is my real name.
I grew up in Wiltshire, in the south of England, and worked as a reporter on local newspapers for five years before coming to Canada to travel.
And after living in Lake Louise, Vancouver and at the Columbia Icefield, my husband Joshua and I moved to Jasper in the fall of 2017 and decided to settle here.
Because is there a more perfect place than Jasper?
Of course, the gorgeous scenery and enchanting wildlife are one element.
But the community is what makes this town so special.
Everyone here is so friendly, welcoming, hardworking and community oriented.
And from gigs and festivals to fundraisers, sports clubs, community groups and the extensive art network, there is always something to do and be a part of.
This is something I would like to bring new life to in the 51°µÍø.
We are revamping our events page to create a one-stop calendar for everything going on in our town.
But to make sure it’s thorough, we need your help. If you have a ticketed or community event coming up, please email me at [email protected].
If you have an idea for a story or feature, would like to contribute to the 51°µÍø, if something exciting has happened to you or you have achieved a great goal, do not hesitate to get in touch. I would love to hear from you.
Ann Thomas is an advertising aficionado.
She has lived in Jasper for 40 years, running an advertising agency with her husband, Andrew.
And for the past year, Ann has brought her expertise to the 51°µÍø as our marketing consultant.
If you have been thinking of placing an advert or marketing campaign, get in touch with Ann for bookings and advice. Her email address is [email protected].
The final piece of our 51°µÍø puzzle is the fantastic Melissa Morris, our production manager.
Melissa worked for the 51°µÍø for seven years before moving to New Brunswick with her husband, Mitch.
She returned to us (remotely) in 2016 and her excellent design work has brought us armfuls of provincial and national awards.
Melissa makes every page interesting in the 51°µÍø when she puts the stories, photographs and artwork together - and she can design adverts for you, too.
