Ann Thomas | Special to the 51做厙
Welcome to your new Jasper Seniors Society 51做厙 column, which will appear every two weeks courtesy of The 51做厙.
We had a lively meeting on Monday, Feb. 13, and we have many things to share with you.
Our guest speaker was Megan Verhey, who was promoting her professional in-home support services to people who can benefit from socialization, entertainment and increased community connection in their daily lives. Megan offers friendly visits, light housekeeping and errands. If you wish to find out more about the benefits of Megans registered company, then please call Megan at 780-883-0442 or email [email protected].
Come and join the From the Stacks Seniors Reading Group at the library. We meet twice a month to listen to excerpts of books or short stories read by Linda Morgan and talk about themes. The library offers coffee, tea and snacks. This Group meets next on Thursday, March 2 and 16 at 1:30 p.m. for an hour or so. We hope you will give this a try.
We wish to thank Hilary Arsenault from the Jasper Employment & Education Centre for offering free tech/computer learning courses at Pine Grove Manor and at our Seniors Lounge throughout the month of February.
If you are interested in free participation in a weekend with a Sun-style Tai Chi trainer on March 11 and 12, please call Janeen Keelan at 780-852-6542 or email to [email protected].
We are pleased to announce that your executive has obtained a free shuttle service to all Community Dinners at the Activity Centre which take place each Sunday until March 26. If you wish to be picked up by the Alpine Traveler Bus, please call or text to reserve your seat at 780-931-9800. Deadline for seat reservations is noon on the Saturday before.
Anyone over 55 years of age can join the Society for a nominal $10 fee and receive newsletters and invitations to various planned outings and functions throughout the year.
The objectives of the Society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to coordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The Society manages and maintains a Seniors Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month. We hope to have guest speakers at each meeting.
We hope you will follow this column and join us at our next meeting, which is Monday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. All seniors are welcome to attend and see what we are about. You can then decide if membership will be a benefit to you.
If you have any ideas or wish to voice any concerns, please feel free to contact Janis Marks at 780-852-3973 or email [email protected]. We want to hear from you as to how we can make everyday living better for seniors in Jasper.
