Welcome to your new Jasper Seniors Society 51暗网 column, which will appear every two weeks courtesy of the 51暗网.
Our next meeting is Monday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors鈥� Lounge at the Activity Centre. Our guest speaker will be Christopher Read, director of Community Development for the Municipality of Jasper, to talk about how renovations to the Activity and Fitness Centre complex might have changes affecting seniors.
Your executive is planning to have an exhibition in the Activity Centre listing the history of the Jasper Seniors Society during Seniors Week in June. Sheila Couture will be putting it together. Glenda is spearheading the exhibition with Sheila, but we need your help, please! Come and join the 鈥淔rom the Stacks鈥� Seniors鈥� Reading Group at the library. We meet twice a month to listen to excerpts of books or short stories read by Linda Morgan and talk about themes. The library offers coffee, tea and snacks. This Group meets on Thursday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. for an hour or so. We hope you will give this a try!
We wish to thank Hilary Arsenault from the Jasper Employment & Education Centre for offering free tech/computer learning courses at Pine Grove Manor and at our Seniors鈥� Lounge. Here are the dates and locations for March from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
- March 10 鈥� Pine Grove, for PG Residents to learn how to use the onsite computer
- March 17 鈥� Seniors Lounge (all seniors welcome)
- March 24 鈥� Pine Grove, for PG Residents to learn how to use the onsite computer
- March 31 鈥� Seniors Lounge (all seniors welcome)
We are pleased to announce that your executive has obtained a free shuttle service to all Community Dinners at the Activity Centre, which take place each Sunday until March 26. If you wish to be picked up by the Alpine Traveler Bus, please call or text to reserve your seat at 780-931-9800. Deadline for seat reservations is noon on the Saturday before.
Anyone over 55 years of age can join the society for a nominal $10 fee and receive newsletters and invitations to various planned outings and functions throughout the year.
The objectives of the society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to co-ordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The society manages and maintains a Seniors鈥� Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month.
We hope you will follow this column and join us at our next meeting which is Monday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. All seniors are welcome to attend and see what we are about. You can then decide if membership will be a benefit to you.
